Berwick Academy

BA Charitable Funds Application Form

The Berwick Academy Endowment and George Cringle Scholarship funds

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to students and ex-students (aged up to 25) of Berwick Academy, for activity that promotes their further educational and development.

The funds were established in June 2010 with the transfer of the Berwick upon Tweed Community High School Endowment Fund and George Cringle Scholarship Fund, from the school to the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, a grant-making charity based in Newcastle.

Since transferring to the Community Foundation, the funds have made grants worth a total of more than £70,000, supporting a huge number of former and current students, as well as some of the organisations who work with them. The funds have also made a number of exceptional awards to the school itself in order to enhance its offer to students.

Students and former students have been supported in a range of pursuits and activities, including sport, music, drama, and foreign trips.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate their commitment to the proposed activity by contributing a fair share of the total cost of the activity through their own fundraising and/or family support. For school trips it has been agreed that the funds should contribute a maximum of 85% of total cost. Applications for grants to pay fees for university courses are not eligible but fees for training courses, including registration and examination costs, which lead to a professional qualification, can be supported.

Members of the Berwick Academy Charitable Trusts Sub-Committee act as the fund advisors for the funds.  Please click the link to apply
