International Women’s Day Competition
The week leading up to International Women’s Day on 8th March 2021 saw Berwick Academy celebrating the achievements of women from around the world, many walks of life and historical periods, with a two-day virtual learning project based on a video library produced by Academy staff. Those videos remain to view on this website.
Since then, we have received the exciting news that 3 of our students – Jasmine White (Year 9), Billie-Jo Eldessouky (Year 11) and Morgan Davids (Year 12) – scooped Runner-up awards in Northumberland County Council’s Year 9-12 Short Story Competition and Digital Graphic Competition, and Overall Winner in that latter category, respectively.
The composite image accompanying this website story illustrates all the Academy’s art and graphic entries, those awarded demonstrating really striking ideas related both to International Women’s Day and to National Mental Health Week, which coincided at that time in March. Both successful digital graphic entries poignantly portray the creators themselves as choices of ‘inspirational Northumberland woman’, which absolutely paid off in the competition and did those students and the Academy proud.
We would like to say ‘thank you and well done’ to all who entered, in whichever category – and especially to our winner and two runners up, who between them won £400 for the school and a batch of Waterstones gift vouchers for themselves. Congratulations on your successes!
