Wimbledon Tennis Event

19 July 2022

The Berwick Academy PE department have been working with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) over the past 6 months in a bid to secure for our pupils, the opportunity to attend the world class event at Wimbledon.

Such a high profile event typically comes with an extremely high price tag, which often makes this unattainable for the majority of people.

We were therefore thrilled to be recognised by the LTA and the school seized the opportunity to take a group of pupils.

The pupils were not only inspired by¬†an international cast of players including Rafael Nadal, Nick Krygios and Britain’s own Jasmine Conway, but also saw the workings of an international standard sporting event, which will directly support their learning as part of their Sports Studies qualification.

In order to maximise practical based learning opportunities, pupils were also encouraged to plan transport links, including reading timetables and working out directions for buses, over ground trains and tubes. They were also able to embed their communication skills by interacting with a range of stakeholders from a multitude of countries.

Our pupils were a credit to themselves and their families and we were proud of how well they flew the Berwick Academy banner throughout their experience in London.

As a school, we remain committed to offering more of our pupils the opportunity to broaden their horizons through sporting events and experiences and will be working hard to plan and deliver more of these trips in the future.
