Drama

Extra-curricular activities play a large part in the Drama department at Berwick Academy.

There is an annual school production in the form of a large scale musical.  Shows have included ‘Back to the 80s’, ‘Alice in Boogie Wonderland’ (which was not only performed but also written by BA students) and ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’.  This year’s show is ‘We Will Rock You’ and it will run 20th – 22nd March.

As well as the school show, there are other opportunities for students to become involved.  A weekly Year 9 Drama Club runs on Tuesday at lunch times.  This year the group are preparing a Theatre in Education piece about bullying which they will take to the local middle schools (something that BA students have done for several years).

Several trips and workshops are organised throughout the year.  Past productions that students have watched have included local productions such as Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, as well as productions further afield in Newcastle and Edinburgh, including Blood Brothers, Shrek the Musical and pantomime Snow White.  Workshops that students have attended have included dance workshops with professional companies Fertile Ground and the Shobaba Jeyasingh Dance Company.

Covid 19

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are recent onset of a new continuous cough or a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia). If you develop these symptoms, however mild, or you have received a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test result, then you should immediately self-isolate stay at home for at least 10 days from when your symptoms started. If you live with others, all other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. See the stay at home guidance for further information.
