Summer School

‘Berwick Academy Summer School enrolment has now closed. Spaces may still be available for some activities, please email summerschool@berwickacademy.co.uk if you would like to make an enquiry.

Summer School is coming to Berwick Academy this summer with an amazing line-up of activities and experiences on offer; are you ready to join in?!

Why?

Because it will be awesome! In a summer when overseas trips are less likely and many of us will be at home instead of away somewhere, why not come and spend some of that time with us here at Summer School? What could be better than a chance to engage in some fun, enjoyable activities close to home and be with your friends doing something together in a safe, stimulating environment?

When?

Monday 19th July to Friday 23rd July and Monday 26th July to Friday 30th July, 10.00am to 2.00pm Monday to Friday.

You can attend one or both weeks, but must stay for full days and enrol for the full week.

Where?

Berwick Academy school site, entrance and exit at the top gates daily. Each day will start in the dining hall before heading off to each activity location.

What?

A superb offer aimed at achieving the following objectives:

  • To have a positive impact on student mental health and wellbeing
  • To increase student confidence, build a community with peers, develop relationships
  • To learn about the new environment and school routines (for Year 8 students)
  • To develop or learn new skills and experiences

Please see the attached sheet listing our activity areas and a description of what each week may entail.

Who?

Spaces are reserved for students in Year 8 of our feeder middles schools or currently in Year 9 or Year 10 at Berwick Academy. We would like students to meet new people or work with others who they may not currently share classes with. Getting to know the Academy a little more may be particularly useful for some of those students joining us in Year 9 in September.

Each activity will be staffed by Berwick Academy teachers or qualified specialist teachers and coaches. Berwick Academy staff will also be on hand to support with registrations, starts and ends of days, lunches and any First Aid issues that may arise.

How?

To book a place you need to complete an online booking form. This form can be found using the link below.

Booking will open on Thursday 24th June and close on Wednesday 30th June 2021. We appreciate this is quite a quick turnaround, so please do book early to ensure you secure a place.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis, although up until Monday 28th June equal spaces will be reserved for students in Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 before being opened up completely. If when you go to complete the booking form an activity does not appear, this means that it is full. Therefore, where possible, please also pick a second choice so that we can try and ensure those who are interested secure a booking.

Please also ensure you complete all aspects of the enrolment form and provide us with emergency contact details and any medical or allergy advice for each participant. Students will not be signed up to an activity until we have a fully completed enrolment form.

As bookings come in, we will confirm allocation of a space via email.

Kit?

Packed lunches, snacks and drinks needed throughout the day will be provided by Berwick Academy at no cost to students. If students would like to bring their own packed lunch, healthy snacks or bottled water or juice (no energy drinks) this is absolutely fine.

There are no uniform requirements; students should simply wear clothing appropriate to chosen activities.

How much?

Nothing! Zero! Completely free of charge! Specific Summer School has been provided to the school this year so we’re able to offer the full two weeks to our students without charge which we’re sure you’ll agree is great news!

Rules?

Really easy ones… join in, smile, behave well and have fun! Although Summer School will definitely be more relaxed than regular school, it’s really important everyone gets on with each other and follows their group leader’s instructions. Poor behaviour will not be accepted and repeated or significant behaviour issues may lead to a student being asked to leave Summer School.

Covid Safe?

Definitely! All relevant Covid-19 risk assessments will be in place and students will be asked to sanitise hands regularly be sensible with regard to Covid secure behaviours. Students attending Summer School will form a new ‘summer bubble’ and the four week break between Summer School and school reopening in September will allow enough clear space for year group bubbles to be reformed if needed.

Questions?

If you’re already in Berwick Academy ask in the subject area you’re interested in for some more information, or come and see Mr Douglas. If you’re in Year 8 and not currently in Berwick Academy feel free to give the school a call or email summerschool@berwickacademy.co.uk  and we’ll see if we can help you out.

Best wishes,

Berwick Academy Summer School Team
